We will continue to provide our friendship services, through our befriending calls and our local helpline services which our volunteers and project manager are doing, we have set up a rota with other family members and friends to make sure someone is regularly giving them a ring to check in.
Enabling us to give comfort and reassurance to older people facing long periods of isolation.
Research suggests that acts of giving kindness can help improve your mental wellbeing by:
- Creating positive feelings and a sense of reward.
- Giving you a feeling of purpose and self-worth.
- Helping them to connect with other people.
Small acts of kindness towards other people, or larger ones like our volunteering services in our local communities can make a real difference.
Staying in touch with the people close to you, especially those who are social distancing, within our communities, we have create “buddy systems” to make sure vulnerable and hard-to-reach people stay connected through phone calls, picking up prescriptions or shopping, such thoughtfulness is always greatly appreciated by those that need our services.
Welcome...
The project has developed a simple model that recruits and trains local volunteers to provide practical support for older people living in rural areas.
We have increased the number of volunteers supporting older people in the communities of Winkleigh, Halwill and Woolsery and their surrounding areas. By training and supporting these volunteers the project will work with service providers, communities and individuals to identify those in need and provide practical support where necessary. The project is helping older people to stay in their own homes for longer, reduce hospital admissions, as well overcome loneliness and isolation. |
A Local Community Project...Volunteers are making a difference in their local communities of Holsworthy, Winkleigh, Halwill and Woolsery and their surrounding areas.
Volunteers have received, and will continue to receive, ongoing training in partnership with service providers, to equip them to support older people in the community, many of which are living with dementia, or suffering from loneliness and depression.
